Mr.Luis Cortes was born in the island of Puerto Rico, but moved to New York City, and lived there for 17 years.  At 17, he moved back to Puerto Rico to study college, first at the College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts(CAAM), and later he transferred to Antillean University, where he received a Bachelor degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. He worked for 11 years at the Western Adventist Academy and Bella Vista Adventist School. In 1992 he moved to Rochester, New York, to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he received a Master degree in Statistical Engineering.

He worked for 13 years at the Rochester City School District as a Math teacher. He has been at Greater Miami Adventist Academy for 6 years teaching Math and in 2005 he accepted the position of Principal of GMAA. Mr. Cortes has been married for more than 33 years to his wife Evelia and they have two sons-Alex and Joel. He enjoys golf, Volleyball, been a coach for more than 25 years, and baseball. His goal for GMAA is to make this school the best in all Miami.
